Golmaal is an Indian comedy franchise comprising three films. In the first film, Raman is a middle-class young man who is beset with financial problems and thus gets married to a widowed woman named Dolly. Raman and Dolly have a daughter named Naina. Raman's finance company, which he inherited from his father, was running in loss for most of his life due to bad investment decisions by him and his father. To make matters worse, he loses his job when the company goes bankrupt after being bought over by British businessman Duff Dawson. However, with a stroke of luck, he gets a job at Duff's company as a cleaner. At the same time, Krishna enters Naina's life in a romantic role. The film ends on a happy note when he and Dolly decide to set up their family in Canada due to Raman's business acumen. In the second film, Naina becomes the prime minister of India and Raman is elected as Prime Minister of Canada. In the third film, Naina is prime minister again but her opponents trap her into proposing a state visit to Korea where she is attacked by North Korean agents and later succumbs to injuries sustained in the attack. Raman, once again the secondary lead, takes on the responsibility of educating Naina's young son by becoming his teacher. He is assisted in this task by Krishna. When Naina regains consciousness, she realises her responsibilities as the head of state have been neglected due to her being bedridden for so long. She decides to quit being Prime Minister and goes back to her normal life. The film ends on a happy note when Naina proposes marriage to Raman who accepts with joy. All Golmaal sequels were commercial successes at the box office with the second film being the most successful of all followed by third part . All three films were directed by Rohit Shetty and written by Sajid-Farhad. The first part of the Golmaal franchise was critically appreciated for its unique script, that along with good marketing resulted in the film doing very well at the box office.The second part of the Golmaal franchise was also received very well by critics because of its unique script, characters and comedy quotient.The third part of the Golmaal franchise was also critically acclaimed.
